Villette Springs 50/1 Surprise

VILLETTE, who won on her debut at 20/1 earlier in the season on the all-weather at Kempton sprang another surprise yesterday when winning at Nottingham at 50/1 under Rob Hornby.

Officially, the 3yo Sixties Icon filly dead-heated with Entangling, one of the joint-favourites but in a Stewards’ Enquiry, Villette was awarded the race outright and her rival was demoted to second.

There was definite interference in the closing stages when the Harper Lodge Farm filly was hampered and it was always likely that she would be awarded the race.

This was a game performance by Villette, who was making her turf debut after 145 days off the track and she showed real resolution to stay on, having been off the bridle at the three pole.  She has now won twice in just four starts and remains unexposed.  The jockey felt “she should go on improving.”
