TANGRAMM, all-weather Champion in 2015/16 but without a victory this year, recaptured the winning habit when landing his first Class 4 race at Chelmsford last night under a cool ride from Charles Bishop.
The 5yo son of Sakhee’s Secret was settled at the back and held up for much of the 1m2f contest. Coming wide over a furlong out, he edged left under pressure but stayed on well inside the final furlong to win by three-quarters of a length from Eltezam. This was a fine waiting ride by Charles Bishop, for whom this was his second winner for the yard, following success in October on Harlequin Striker.
Tangramm has been a revelation since joining the yard from Simon Dow in 2015. After joining Harper Lodge Farm, he has run 21 times and won on eight occasions. Add two seconds, a third and two fourths and he has been in the prize money in 62% of his races. His rise to fame came within the space of 130 days from November 2015 to March 2016 when this rapid improver won seven races.
There is no doubt Tangramm is an all-weather specialist as all his wins have come on an artificial surface but he’s not a one-trick all-weather pony. While five of his victories have come at Wolverhampton, he has also won at Kempton and yesterday’s success was his second course and distance win at Chelmsford. He’s also versatile over trip, having won from 1m 1/2f to 1m4f, so Charles Bishop knew he’d stay the trip!
Congratulations to owner John Marsden for whom Tangramm must be a joy to own…and watch!
The stable has certainly hit a purple patch this week with a winner a day on Wednesday, Thursday and yesterday. This takes the yard to 36 winners for the year and with more runners to come, maybe there’ll be a winner or two more yet?
