“A winning machine, Spring Romance and he won with authority as well.”
This was how the Attheraces commentator described another fabulous win from Spring Romance over six furlongs yesterday at Lingfield which made it four wins and a second from five starts this year to the delight of the Solario Racing (Berkhamsted) owners.
It certainly was an authoritative performance by the son of Zebedee who had previously won over course and distance last month. He broke well under Robert Winston, tracked the leaders, came down the outside in the home straight, led inside the final furlong and won by 2 1/4 lengths, going away from Global Excel.
Spring Romance was yesterday running off a mark of 68, three pounds higher than for his win at Windsor three weeks previously. However, without Jack Duern’s usual 3lb claim, “Neville” was effectively running off a mark six pounds higher. It didn’t seem to make any difference and inside the final furlong there only looked to be one winner. The win was visually impressive and everyone connected with the horse is hoping the handicapper isn’t too harsh!
The horse started off this year winning off a mark of 45 and yesterday’s fourth success was 23lbs higher. Next week, he’ll be in the mid-70s but the manner in which he won suggests there could be more to come.
He’s a good-looking horse with raw talent, versatility (having won over five and six furlongs, on turf and on two different all-weather surfaces), a great turn of foot and a real desire to win. He’s an absolute pleasure to train.
Congratulations to Solario Racing (Berkhamsted) whose owners were out in force yesterday to cheer “Neville” home. A special mention should also go to Alex Humphreys who does the horse as she pointed out last week that the horse was just not quite in the same shape as before he won at Windsor which is why he missed Nottingham and was given another week. Well done Alex!
