LUCYMAI made it win number three for the year when the 3/1 favourite led from pillar to post at Chelmsford last night over seven furlongs under stable apprentice, Jack Duern.
Drawn well in stall one on the inside, the five-year old Multiplex mare when straight to the front and set the pace. Always in command, she kicked two lengths clear a furlong from home and won comfortably by two and a quarter lengths from runner-up, Take The Helm. Stablemate, Eljaddaaf, whom she has met three times this year was a further length back in third, staying on from the back under Robert Winston.
This was another impressive performance from Lucymai, who was running off her highest ever mark, 95 but who is sure to join the Harper Lodge Farm “Hundred Club” when reassessed by the handicapper next week. She is likely to go up around seven pounds and join the likes of Librisa Breeze, Lancelot Du Lac, Flaming Spear and other stable mates who are rated 100 or higher. Currently, the yard has six rated 100 or higher.
This was another great win for long-time supporter of the yard, owner Roger Beadle and congratulations to him on Lucymai’s sixth career win, achieved in just 21 career starts. She’s a joy to train and her record includes having been in the first four in two-thirds of all her races.to date. Clearly, she’s in love with the all-weather as all her victories have come on an artificial surface with five wins coming over the specialist distance of seven furlongs.
This was the 18th winner for the yard this year at a strike rate of 17% while 59% of all runs have seen horses win or be placed. Prize money is already over £220,000 and with some big prizes to be aimed at during the rest of the season, hopefully there should be more in the pipeline!
