GREGORIAN GIRL won her second race of the year and was the stable’s second winner in two days after she scored at Kempton last night under a fine ride from Martin Dwyer.
One of thirteen runners in the mile handicap, the three-year-old daughter of Gregorian was stepping up to a mile for the first time and it seemed to suit her. She was always in the first six but during the early part of the race, Martin had to keep her in contention and prevent her from being shuffled out too wide.
She made good progress two out and started to become serious in the home straight and hit the front inside the distance. Despite edging right a little, she ran on well and was a length up on the runner-up, Comeonfeeltheforce.
This was no more than Gregorian Girl deserved following a fourth, three seconds and a third in her last five starts. The filly clearly likes Kempton as her first win was at the track on her seasonal reappearance back in early April. She was winning off an official handicap mark of 57 that day and yesterday was running off 63. She will naturally go up again but she’s a scopey filly who should give her owners, Skipsey, Franks & Roper And A Chapman, plenty more fun in the future. Congratulations to them for this great win.
It has been a good couple of days for the yard following Fantastic Flyer’s win two days ago and the stable nearly landed a Kempton double yesterday but Sir Prize was just denied by the shortest of margins…a nose!
A dual winner already this year, the son of Sir Percy came with a rattling run in the final furlong and just failed to prevail. His turn is surely not far away!
Harper Lodge Farm is now on 38 wins for the year, just one behind last year’s joint best ever tally of 39 victories. A record season beckons!
