ELJADDAAF and Angel Of The South continued a good week for the stable with a 15/1 double at Chelmsford last night with both horses ridden by Robert Winston.
The first leg of the double was in a 0-95 handicap over 6f and the previous six times winning 7yo son of Shamardal made it third time lucky this year after being runner-up in his first two runs last month.
Taking a keen hold, he was held up by Robert Winston who always had plenty of horse under him. Switched left and then right, Eljaddaaf took it up inside the final furlong and won going away by one and quarter lengths from Human Nature. The 4/1 joint-favourite was third in the race last year off a pound higher mark and having been knocking on the door of late, this was a well deserved success for Eljaddaaf owners Wentdale Ltd and Mrs L A Ivory.
Half an hour later, the double was completed by 3yo grey filly, Angel Of The South, who defied a penalty for her Wolverhampton success at the back end of last year. The Dark Angel filly had disappointed at Kempton on her last two starts but she clearly relished the Chelmsford turning track and made all in the five furlong novice stakes for her second career win.
She was full of running throughout and the 9/4 second favourite won going away by two and a half lengths from the odds-on favourite, Sugar Coating. This was a good performance giving weight away to her market rivals and there should be more to come from the Heather and Michael Yarrow-owned filly.
It was a great night at Chelmsford as Dor’s Law, who ran round the outside throughout, was a very creditable second, beaten a length and a quarter under Keelan Baker in the 1m2f apprentice handicap.
