Cappananty Con Wins Comfortably

CAPPANANTY CON won his third race last night and his best to date when comfortably winning at Chelmsford in a Class 4 handicap over six furlongs under a fine ride by Robert Winston.

Low draws are a big advantage in the sprints at the Essex track these days and although the stable runner was drawn okay in seven, the son of Zebedee jumped well and took a keen hold.  The jockey restrained him but always had him handy and entering the final furlong, he pressed the leader, took it up and stayed on well to beat the favourite, Born To Finish by three-quarters of a length.  Cappananty was four pounds better off with a two length beating when they last met a month ago, in theory not enough so this was a good performance by the well supported 6/1 shot.

Winner of two previous races, both at Wolverhampton, this was Cappananty Con’s first win in a Class 4 to the delight of owners, Jim Biggane, John Waterfall and Dean Ivory.  Winning yesterday off 77, he is sure to go up a few pounds to his highest ever rating.

The stable had a good night at Chelmsford as Angel Of The South, also the mount of Robert Winston, was second in a nursery over five furlongs.  Unfortunately, she badly missed the break and was always playing catch up in the six-runner field but she never gave up and was a clear second.  Although the winner, Global Academy had flown and was a clear cut winner, “Angel” would have been a lot closer with a better start.

The horses appear to be in good form and Cappananty Con’s win followed that of Varsovian at Lingfield the previous day.  This was the yard’s 35th winner of the year, so beating last year’s total.
