Don’t Look Down Spins At Kempton

DON’T LOOK DOWN, the unraced three-year-old grey by Aussie Rules, owned by Solario Racing went for a racecourse spin at Kempton this morning with stable mate, Best Company as he progresses towards his racecourse debut.

The very imposing grey gelding, bought at Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale last autumn out of Sir Mark Prescott’s yard for 25,000 guineas, has been pleasing since being gelded at the beginning of the year but he needs some racecourse education, hence the trip to Kempton.  Stable lass, Natalie Byrne, who is Tropics’ regular rider was on board Don’t Look Down who needs strong handling as he’s not only some 17 hands high but is very much his own man.

Being bred to get middle distances, the plan was to gallop him over a mile and a quarter with Best Company, who has racecourse experience under his belt with two runs last year.  So, the pair limbered up at the trot and then did a nice gallop upsides each other over 1m2f.

Both horses showed signs of greenness and Don’t Look Down put in a few playful bucks as he went down to the start!  The pair went a nice even gallop and finished upsides as planned.  Natalie was pleased with her mount but said the penny has still yet to drop and he’ll need another gallop before hitting the racecourse for real.

After the work, both horses had a hose down and a pick of grass and Don’t Look Down does not need telling twice when it comes to eating!  Head down, he was soon hoovering up the Kempton grass!
